NAVIGATING TIPS to Navigate the Trains and Transport Options in Tokyo

We use one of two different methods to map out the route and transport between ‘Point A and Point B’. This includes getting from the Airport to our Accommodation.

  1. Google Maps / Apple Maps: The first which is very easy, is using Apple Maps or Google Maps, and then selecting TRAIN. Both will give you a variety of suggested routes, and will include all the information you need, including walking instructions, train lines, and details of where (and if) you will need to transfer stations. It will give you a list of the prices, durations and next available trains for you to choose from.
  2. The second is a website called RoamToRio.com. It checks everything from, flights, ferries, walking and will also give you all the price options, and can even assist you to book.

TIP: If you are planning on travelling by TRAIN from Narita Airport to your Hotel in Tokyo City Centre, we suggest you ‘map your route on arrival’. Depending on which station you are going to and the time you arrive will determine which train is actually the best option for you. This will also save you waiting, and you can get on the quickest, soonest or cheapest train.

TRAINS from Narita Airport to Tokyo City

Below is an overview of the train transfer options travelling from Narita Airport to Tokyo City Centre.

NEX Narita Express – QUICKEST option

Riding the JR Narita Express (NEX) takes roughly one hour and costs around 3070 yen to Tokyo Station. The NEX Narita Express departs Narita Airport approximately every 30 minutes.

Keisei Skyliner (Transfers required at Nippori Station)

If you take the Keisei Skyliner from Narita Airport you will need to transfer at the Nippori Station. The trip takes around 40 minutes and costs around 2500 yen. Once at Nippori Station you will transfer to the JR Yamanote Line or JR Keihin-Tohoku Line to your desired station.

The Keisei Skyliner operates between 9 and 6pm and there are approximately 3 trains departing every hour.

Local Train Lines (JR Sobu Line or Keisei Express) – SLOWEST & CHEAPEST Train option

These run regularly and although are a cheaper option, take 90+minutes to reach the city. They also do not offer a lot of room for your luggage and can be very congested with traffic.

BUSES from Narita Airport to Tokyo Centre

Limousine Bus Transfer

Limousine bus transfers to Tokyo Station depart Narita Airport approximately every hour. The one-way journey takes about 100 minutes and costs approximately 3100 yen.

Airport Bus Transfers- CHEAPEST OPTION to travel from the Narita Airport to Tokyo City Centre

Airport Bus TYO-NRT” buses operate multiple times per hour between Narita Airport, Tokyo Station and Ginza Station. The one way fare is 1300 yen during the day (1500 yen from August 2024) and 2600 yen for late-night and early-morning departures (3000 yen from August 2024).
