How to get to Mount Fuji from Tokyo
Mount Fuji by Train (from Tokyo)
Before we get to the 15 x Best Things to do in Mount Fuji, you have to get there, right!
Getting to Mount Fuji from Tokyo is quite straightforward. The BEST way to navigate is to use Google or Apple maps and use your location and put in ‘Kawaguchiko Station‘ as your end station. This will bring up several options and times.
If you are planning to spend a few days in the Mount Fuji and / or Hakone region, you may consider getting a FUJI / HAKONE PASS to save yourself some money on your transport.
Details:
- The Fuji-Hakone Pass is a 3-day pass that covers transportation around the Fuji-Hakone area at a discount.
- It includes unlimited rides on all transportation in the Fuji-Hakone area for 3-days starting from Shinjuku Station and Odawara Station.
- Discounts are also available at many different places, attractions and restaurants in the Hakone area and Fuji areas.
You also could consider hiring a car, if staying for a few days.

By Car
Rent a Car: If you prefer driving, take the Chuo Expressway or the Tomei Expressway. Follow signs to Mount Fuji (approximately 2 hours depending on traffic). NOTE: You will need a INTERNATIONAL LICENCE to drive in Tokyo. We suggest Klook to book a car, it searches all the available cars and companies and compares them.
Hire a Driver: Your other option, which is a great option if you are in a small group, is to hire your own Driver and set your own itinerary! You can do this by using a service like this! Hire a Driver for the Day
Day Tours
Day tours can be very handy. Not only do they take the stress out of getting to Mount Fuji and getting around the sites, they offer you a chance to get to places off the beaten track that you may not have reached by public transport.

1. Shiraito No Taki Waterfall AND Otodome no Taki Waterfall: Conveniently located at the same location, both of these waterfalls are beautiful. 2. Lake Monto: Less crowded than other lakes, Lake Monto provides a peaceful setting with the stunning backdrop of Mount Fuji. It is also located very close to Nakanokura Pass View Point and offers many other beautiful viewpoints of Mount Fuji.
3. Nakanokura Pass View Point: This scenic viewpoint offers breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Fuji, making it a perfect spot for photography and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
4. Yamanakako Hana no Miyako Park: A stunning flower park that features vibrant seasonal blooms with Mount Fuji providing a picturesque backdrop.
5. Oishi Park is a free garden with seasonal flowers and shrubs overlooking the Mount Fuji. It also has a cafe that offers an amazing view as well.

15. Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine: This was one of our favorite Shrines in Japan, the entrance was magnificent with the biggest trees and lanterns lining the pathway. The grounds themselves were very large.
Tips for seeing Mount Fuji
Consider these tips for choosing the ideal days to visit:
- Check Weather Forecasts: Look for days with clear skies. Generally, late autumn (November) and winter (December to February) offer clearer days.
- Avoid June and July: These months are part of Japan’s rainy season, so visibility is often poor.
- Go Early: Early mornings often have less haze and clearer skies, providing the best views.
- Autumn: October and early November showcase beautiful fall foliage, enhancing the scenery.
- Winter: Snow-capped peaks in winter provide stunning visuals, but dress warmly!
