What is the best part of Osaka to stay in?… My personal favourite

🔥Pro Tip: Namba is the best area to stay in Osaka for First Timers

When anyone ever asks me “Where is the best place to stay in Osaka” My answer ALWAYS is, unquestionably, Namba!

Located in the heart of Osaka, this area is where modern meets old-school. Smack bang in the heart of Osaka’s lively downtown, Namba dishes up everything you could crave.

Think busy shopping streets and quirky thrift shops, alongside the neon lit nightlife, ancient temples, and street food that’ll make your taste buds dance as much as the nightlife.

Wander the alleys of Dotonbori, where neon signs light up the night and Instagram feeds.

Lastly, (if you needed even more convincing) Namba is a major transportation hub, offering direct access to Kansai International Airport, and easy connections for day trips. It’s your central ticket to everywhere else in the city and beyond.

Whether you’re here for the sights, the bites, or the nights, Namba’s got you covered.

This will make planning your Japan Trip so much easier!

Can I stay in Osaka and visit Kyoto on a day trip?

Wondering whether to stay in Osaka or Kyoto or both for your Japan adventure?

If you’re looking for convenience, affordability, endless dining options and a city vibe, Osaka makes a fantastic base, especially for day trips.

Thanks to the super-fast train connections, you absolutely can stay in Osaka and visit Kyoto with ease. In fact, it takes just 30 minutes by train to reach Kyoto’s top attractions.

That said, staying in Kyoto offers a totally different vibe. It’s perfect for travelers seeking a slower pace, traditional ryokans, scenic walks through temple-lined paths, and a more immersive cultural experience. If you’re into heritage, history, and quiet mornings in nature, Kyoto might be the better fit.

Personally, I think both cities deserve at least a few nights! It’s the best way to experience the unique energy each one brings. You can check out my full Where to Stay in Kyoto Guide for the best areas and stays to suit your travel style.

When should I book my accommodation in Osaka?

I always try to book as far in advance as possible, usually aiming for 3-9 months, or even up to 12 months in advance. You will usually find the best prices, room types and range of choice, by securing your stay early.

🔥Pro Tip: A lot of hotels in Japan offer a ‘Free Cancellation Policy’ which makes booking far in advance easy and stress free.

Where should I book my Hotels in Osaka?

I also use Trip, Expedia, Airbnb and Agoda, depending on which has the best deal.
